Tavizon, who was previously a lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office but was demoted over his handling of the case, sat down with Morrison for an interview for the episode. “Police will sometimes talk and sometimes not,” he said. Morrison said he said was surprised at the frankness of Grant County Sheriff’s Deputy Ray Tavizon. So, you have to ask, why was that? It was a bizarre set of circumstances.” The detective in charge simply didn’t interview him. It went unsolved for a long time and you have to ask why, when the authorities have been told again and again who did it. “That somehow cops were protecting cops,” Morrison said, “and the revelation that her husband was a Silver City police officer and the thought that everyone thinks he did it. “She was trying so hard to accomplish things in her life and so bright.”īut that whispering that went around town … that “blue wall…” “She was just a particularly compelling person,” Morrison said. It’s important to tell and can be very interesting when told in the way we tell these stories.”Īnd Cassy herself was such a bright, shining light, dimmed far too soon. “A young woman trying to make her way in life is having trouble with an aggressive mate. “It’s a classic sort of thing that sometimes happens in dysfunctional relationships and we like to draw attention to those things,” Morrison said. That and, sadly, that situations like Cassy’s are far too common. It was those whispers, he said, and the hint of a “blue wall” - cops protecting cops - that drew their attention.
